RTX 3090: Free tool brings almost double the performance
An interesting project developed by a GitHub user with the nickname Zagitta, is designed to overcome limitations in the operation of special data processing cores in graphics cards with the Ampere architecture, such as the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090. The solution changes the hardware operating settings through a special software interface that runs before the main driver is loaded. Therefore, changing the firmware of the graphics card itself is not required. The entire process is based on previous research aimed at adapting dedicated graphics cards for cryptocurrency mining.
Practical measurements show noticeable improvements in certain tasks. Matrix multiplication performance has almost doubled on some models, and users also report faster data processing when running local language models and image creation tools. Despite the excellent results, the improvements depend heavily on the type of task. There is currently no reliable evidence that the solution increases the number of frames per second when playing all games, although similar computing units also use AI-assisted rendering technologies.
Since the solution is still new and experimental, considerable caution is required when installing it on computers you use every day. Using untested software add-ons can cause problems with system stability or performance, so it is advisable to wait for additional testing and more mature versions before using it on your primary computer.
