A great device for managing passwords and security keys

MiixKey introduces the MiixKey, a compact hardware device for managing passwords and security keys based on the ESP32-P4 chip. The device allows you to locally store more than 3,000 passwords, FIDO2 credentials and NFC cards, all managed via a built-in 2.08-inch touchscreen without a connection to the cloud.

MiixKey is designed as a solution for users, developers, and cybersecurity professionals who need secure storage without relying on smartphones. Unlike devices like the YubiKey or Google Titan, which often require an additional device for management, MiixKey includes its own user interface on a 5.08 cm (2-inch) display with a resolution of 480 x 640 pixels.

The heart of the device is the Espressif Systems ESP32-P4 processor with a dual-core 32-bit RISC-V CPU (up to 400 MHz) and an additional low-power core. Wireless connectivity is provided by the Nordic Semiconductor nRF52840, which supports Bluetooth 5, NFC and other protocols. The housing is made of CNC aluminum alloy with gold-plated buttons and measures 60 x 40 x 10 mm.

The device offers five independent slots, each of which acts as a separate key with its own PIN code. It can store up to 320 FIDO2 keys in total (64 per slot) and supports the PIV and OpenPGP standards. Special features are the “Dangerous Mode”, which triggers data deletion in the event of an incorrect PIN, and the “Emergency Mode”, which allows for a time delay of access for up to 64 hours.

In addition to password management, the device can emulate a keyboard to automate commands and act as a TOTP generator for two-factor authentication. Since it works completely offline, password recovery is not possible, so the manufacturer recommends regular backups of KDBX (KeePass) databases.
