Hackers break into Rockstar Games
Rockstar Games has confirmed that a data breach occurred via an external service provider, with a limited amount of information compromised. The ShinyHunters group claimed responsibility for the attack, claiming to have gained access through Snowflake, a popular enterprise cloud hosting platform, using Anodot for analytics and cost tracking.
The attackers are demanding a ransom payment by April 14th or they are threatening to make the stolen data public. However, Rockstar emphasizes that the incident has no impact on the company's operations or its users.
Details of what data the hackers obtained are not yet fully clear. According to information known so far, it is believed to be primarily business or corporate data, rather than user data. Potentially compromised content could include financial documents, marketing materials, or contracts with partners such as Sony and Microsoft.
This isn't the first major security incident for Rockstar. In 2022, the group Lapsus$ released a large set of screenshots from Grand Theft Auto VI.
