Reinstall Windows 11 now directly from the cloud

The latest Windows 11 Insider Beta from Microsoft brings significant relief to anyone experiencing PC performance issues. The new Cloud Rebuild option allows users and IT administrators to reset their device to factory settings by downloading a fresh installation file directly from the cloud. Previous methods typically required the use of an installation USB stick or a special system image for this step.

The new option is accessed through the Microsoft Windows Recovery Environment, which automatically appears after multiple failed startups or can be opened manually in system settings. When the computer is connected to the network via a cable or Wi-Fi, we select the desired version and language and start the download. The tool automatically restores key system drivers, ensuring immediate basic functionality after a reboot. The only problem with this is that the recovery environment absolutely requires appropriate network drivers to operate, which could pose a certain risk with specific hardware.

The update brings other improvements. Wi-Fi connections are now saved and transferred to the rescue environment, so manual password entry is no longer necessary. The AutoPlay feature has been redesigned to support light and dark modes, support for DIB image files as wallpapers has been added, and the sentence tracker in Microsoft Windows File Explorer has been improved. Microsoft has also built in the ability to automatically back up photos from mobile devices to Microsoft OneDrive. This raises the question of how reliably cloud recovery will work on slow internet lines, but the idea of installing without external media remains very practical.
