End of all updates for LG phones!

Although LG Electronics was very active in the mobile telephony sector a few years ago, the leaders decided to withdraw from this area in 2021. The decision was not surprising, as LG had been recording large losses in this area for the past six years.

LG Electronics has been in the smartphone business for many years. It has surprised us with some very interesting solutions. The latest one is the LG Wing 5G smartphone, which hides an additional screen under the main one, accessible by rotating the main screen 90 degrees.

Although LG Electronics was very active in the field of mobile telephony a few years ago, in 2021, the leaders decided to withdraw from this area. The decision was not surprising, since LG has been recording large losses in this area for the past six years. During the mentioned period, LG Electronics lost an estimated 3.8 billion euros. The management still hoped that the trend would turn for the better this year, but unfortunately it did not. Instead of manufacturing mobile phones, LG will now redirect resources to other areas that are experiencing growth. These include IoT devices (Internet of Things), smart home systems, robotics, artificial intelligence, various business solutions, platforms and services, as well as components for electric vehicles and 6G communication technologies, which will soon play a key role in the market.

What about users who still use LG smartphones? They only have until the end of June to update their devices and install dedicated applications on their PCs. At the beginning of August, LG will shut down all update servers. This will also be LG's final move to completely withdraw from the smartphone business.
