Xiaomi presents GPS with millimeter accuracy
MediaTek, China Telecom and Xiaomi have officially launched a major upgrade to their RTK (Real-Time Kinematic) high-precision positioning technology. This partnership represents a major leap forward in accuracy and response speed, combining the power of 5G connectivity, advanced chip development and Xiaomi's smart ecosystem.
The upgraded RTK system enables outdoor positioning with sub-meter accuracy and response times in the second range, making it one of the fastest and most reliable public solutions in the world. By leveraging 5G infrastructure, smart data transmission and tight coupling between chipset and software, the system is ready for use in smart cities, autonomous driving and intelligent transportation.
This project confirms Xiaomi's expansion beyond smartphones, as it focuses on the urban future and smart mobility under the Xiaomi HyperConnect vision.
RTK is one of the most accurate positioning methods based on the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS). The technique uses differential measurements between a base station and a mobile receiver to achieve centimeter-level accuracy in real time. Conventional GPS does not provide this, making it unsuitable for autonomous vehicles, drones, and industrial robots. The collaboration between MediaTek’s chips, China Telecom’s network, and Xiaomi’s ecosystem enables an optimized RTK model that can change the way smart devices operate in real-world environments.
This technological breakthrough is not just about improving performance, but also integrating communication, computing and mobility. With the further development of smart ecosystems, Xiaomi will soon incorporate such innovations into advanced navigation systems and next-generation IoT solutions.
