Finally revealed when the all-European office suite Euro-Office will be available

Many countries and companies outside the United States have been looking for a reliable alternative to American software for a long time. The desire for greater security and control over their own data has led them to invest heavily in digital sovereignty initiatives. The latest response to these needs is the Euro-Office project, whose stable version 1.0 will be officially released on June 9 and will be available for download via public GitHub repositories.

The new Euro-Office office suite brings web-based word processors, spreadsheets and presentations that enable real-time collaboration between multiple users. The entire suite is designed to make it easier for public authorities, education systems and regulated industries to transition away from American productivity solutions. The user interface with ribbon-style toolbars is very similar to the modern Microsoft Office suite, which will greatly facilitate the transition to the new environment for end users. Euro-Office is designed primarily as a web-based office suite and not as a classic desktop suite.

The development is being led by a strong group of European cloud service and collaboration tool providers, including Ionos, Nextcloud, EuroStack, XWiki, OpenProject, Soverin, Abilian, BTactic, Open-Xchange and Office.eu. The developers emphasize that the combination of European corporate control and open licensing solves transparency issues much better than closed American solutions. Euro-Office does not come as a standalone download, but as an integrated part of existing European ecosystems. Upon release, it will be immediately available in the products of the participating companies, including the latest web release Nextcloud Hub 26 Spring.

Euro-Office supports both Microsoft formats (DOCX, XLSX, PPTX) and OpenDocument formats (ODT, ODS, ODP). In addition to editing files, it also allows working with PDF documents, commenting, tracking changes, comparing versions and chatting between co-authors directly in the browser. The project code will be open for contributions and deployment worldwide.
