Revolut: Attackers gained access to users' personal documents

Revolut is facing the consequences of a security breach that occurred after receiving fraudulent requests from an email address belonging to an official government agency. A Revolut spokesperson confirmed that the company immediately blocked the address in question upon detecting unusual activity. In addition, the relevant government agency, data protection authority, police and financial regulators were notified of the incident.

Despite the database breach, Revolut insists that its systems and customer funds remain completely intact and secure. It did not disclose the exact number of individuals affected. According to TechCrunch, the information exposed included birth details, home and email addresses, phone numbers and copies of personal documents, including passports and driver's licenses. This raises concerns about how such a large digital platform could fall prey to fake messages, as security protocols should be extremely strict when processing official requests.

Revolut, one of Europe's most successful fintech startups, operates entirely without physical bank branches. It is currently planning an IPO, targeting a market value of up to €168.7 billion. The security incident comes at a sensitive time for Revolut, as it prepares for a major business move.
