Google Maps gets UI upgrade, from navigation to analytics
Generative AI in Street View
One of the most notable new features is the “Maps Imagery Grounding” feature, which allows users to create realistic scenes within Google Street View using generative artificial intelligence.
With a simple text command, companies can visualize projects – from movie scenes to planned construction projects – before they actually exist.
Google emphasizes that users can create visual scenarios in seconds and even animate them with additional UI tools.
Satellite data analysis in minutes
Google is also upgrading Google Earth with a new feature called “Aerial” and “Satellite Insights.” This allows for the analysis of satellite data directly in the cloud (BigQuery), with the company claiming that tasks that previously took weeks can now be completed in minutes.
This opens up new possibilities for urban planning, environmental monitoring and responding to natural disasters.
UI models for geographic analysis
Google also introduced two new AI models designed to analyze geolocation data. These models can automatically identify objects such as roads, bridges, and electrical infrastructure. Until now, companies had to develop such systems themselves, which took months.
More than just navigation
With these upgrades, Google Maps is moving away from its original role as a navigation tool. It is becoming a platform for project visualization, data analysis, and business decision support.
Google is clearly targeting companies that need advanced tools to understand space and data.
