Tesla finally unveils its first two-wheeler, but it's just an expensive scooter for kids
Elon Musk has repeatedly stated in the past that his company will never build an electric motorcycle or two-wheeled vehicle. This decision stems from personal trauma, as he was hit by a truck while riding his road bike at the age of seventeen.
However, Tesla recently introduced its first two-wheeled vehicle. It is a children's scooter called the "Tesla Balance Bike", which is intended for children between the ages of two and five. The product has neither a motor nor pedals, but children move with it simply by pushing their feet off the ground. The main purpose of this innovation is obviously to introduce children to this car brand at an early age. The frame of the scooter is made of magnesium alloy in a recognizable black and white color combination, and it is suitable for children weighing up to 35 kilograms. The seat offers five different height adjustment levels. Since the vehicle only reaches the speed of a toddler's walk, it is completely safe and easily passed Musk's strict criteria.
The biggest concern, however, is the final price of the product. The kick scooter sells for around 207 euros, which puts it at the very top of the children's bike market. Most competing models from well-known brands sell for less than half that amount. Some rare, more expensive competitors, such as the Woom Go model, at least offer brake levers for a higher price. The Tesla version has no brakes at all, which means that parents are paying almost three times the price of a regular kick scooter, mainly for the prestige and recognizable logo on the front.
Despite the high price tag, the first batch of the drives has already sold out, as is the case with most Tesla innovations. Customers who managed to place an order will have to wait until August 2026 for delivery. While this product cannot be considered the company's serious entry into the two-wheeled transportation market, it is a very successful, albeit expensive, marketing move to create brand loyalty among future generations.
